The High Cost of Resurrection: The Ramifications of Bringing Characters Back to Life
Saturday, February 3rd | 3:30-4:15pm | Room 151
It’s known as the “Comic Book Death”: the killing of a character in a work of fiction only to bring them “back”. Superman, Jon Snow, Agent Coulson, Buffy Summers… popular characters are just too resilient to remain in the grave. But does that damage the stories’ impact? How emotionally invested can an audience be when big consequences are easily reversed? Nerd For A Living podcast host Adron Buske talks with a panel of writers about this pervasive trope, and when it has (and hasn’t) worked.
Panelists include:
- Ryan Dalton – author, The Year of Lightning; The Black Tempest; The Genesis Flame
- J.R. Frontera – author, The Hound of God; End of the Line; In Death, Everything
- Kristin Helling – author, The Altruism Effect; The Bystander Effect; Capsule
- Melody Meiners – freelance writer, ghostwriter and story consultant
